Esperanza Spalding is a remarkably talented artist with something to say. Inspired to play music after watching Yo Yo Ma on "Sesame Street," she was playing violin in the Chamber Music Society of Oregon by the age of five and she eventually learned guitar and her primary instrument, bass.

Now Spalding is a four-time Grammy winner, including Best New Artist in 2011, a year that included fellow nominees Mumford & Sons, Florence and the Machine, Drake, and Justin Bieber.

We'll get the story and the inspiration behind her intriguing new album Emily's D+Evolution (out March 4) in this conversation and guest DJ set.
