Following Major Trafficking Bust, New York A.G. Wants Stricter Gun Control
The Attorney General says members of the Brooklyn gun trafficking ring were purchasing the firearms in Florida before bringing them back to New York City
New York's Attorney General is calling for stricter gun laws nationwide following the takedown of Brooklyn based gun trafficking ring.
The illegal firearms were transported into New York City after they were purchased at gun shows in Florida.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says the trafficking was possible because of Florida's lax gun show procedures.
He says Florida and other states across the nation should look to New York as an example for adopting stricter policies.
"At our gun shows, no one can walk out with a gun without getting a background check," Schneiderman says.
He says 90% of guns used in violent crimes in New York came from out of state in 2011 and stricter requirements for purchasing firearms nationwide would help keep deadly weapons out of the hands of criminals.
