Our 2015 FUV Live at CMJ showcase began with a countdown and then a soulful bang, as Houston, Texas 10-piece The Suffers brought their heady mix of soul, funk, jazz, and hip-hop along with plenty of sass from frontwoman Kam Franklin.

As the band performed the title song of its debut, Make Some Room, Kam accepted no less than full attention and engagement from her audience, asking us the question "Do you want a sandwich?" twice. But she didn't have to ask a third time, as everyone in the room shouted back an affirmative "YEAH!" From then on, it was non-stop, hip-shaking, head-nodding, hand-clapping love, as The Suffers brought the Rockwood Music Hall house down, leading host Russ Borris to comment after their set, "I wouldn't want to follow that!"

Already garnering critical praise, numerous local and national awards, rapturous reception on the summer festival circuit this year, and a gushing endorsement from David Letterman, we're happily on board. Look for the band's debut album early next year, as The Suffers are clearly on the move, full steam ahead.
