Governor Cuomo is Rallying for Paid Family Leave

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a proposal that will require businesses to give employees 12 weeks of paid family leave. But not everyone is happy about it.

Governor Cuomo said the plan will allow employees to take time off to be with new children and sick relatives.

"There should be a balance between work, and family, and your life," Cuomo said. "And we want to make sure that people can actually live their life."

But Ken Pokalsky, the Vice President of Government Affairs for the Business Council, said the law would force small businesses to face new challenges.

"You have to deal with...a temporary replacement worker, find a person who knows they're only getting a job for a short period of time," Pokalsky said.  "It's a whole new set of work force management issues they've never had to deal with before."

Pokalsky also said if small businesses have to adopt paid leave, employees will need to work overtime.
