How New York City Shaped Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan was right: "The Times They Are A-Changin'." Today, he became the first singer-songwriter to win a Nobel Prize for literature. And he got to this point with New York City's help.

The Minnesota native arrived in Manhattan in 1961. Dylan ultimately went on to become a regular at venues across Manhattan from Gerde's Folk City to the rock 'n' roll club The Bitter End. But the city isn't just a place where Dylan performed. It's also where he wrote some of his hits like "Talkin New York" and "Blowin in the Wind." He wrote "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" at the Village Gate, now called the Village Theater.

The 75 year old's mark on the city is still seen today. There are walking tours where Dylan fans can scope out the places where he frequented, performed, and lived. Dylan is expected to accept the Nobel Prize in December.
