Marvel Superhero Series Setting Up Shop in New York City

New York City has been the center of the Marvel universe since artists like Stan Lee began developing the comics in 1962. Now the illustrated world of Hell's Kitchen in Midtown Manhattan is coming off the page and onto the real streets of the city.

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist -- together known as the Defenders -- will each have their own Netflix shows. And Governor Cuomo says they'll do more than entertain New Yorkers.

"It's all about jobs, jobs, jobs. It's all about generating the economy in the state of New York."

Cuomo says the deal will create about 400 full-time and 3,000 part-time jobs. It also includes about $200 million in spending from Disney. Cuomo says it's the biggest production commitment in the state's history. 

"It's a very big deal. It's also very cool."

Cuomo says the deal demonstrates the success of the Film-Tax Credit incentive program, which has generated $6 billion for the state in the past three years. 

The Marvel series will begin filming in the summer.
