Morning Brief: June 18

New York City’s newly rebuilt Fulton Street subway station, which opened in November, is about to see its first summer solstice. Ordinarily, the sunniest day of the year (this year it’s June 21) doesn’t have much to do with the New York’s subways. But the Fulton station is different—in its atrium is something called a Sky Reflector-Net, a contraption of aluminum panels and steel cables that lets in natural light to brighten much of the station. The sun coming in this Saturday will be the brightest the reflector has seen yet—rays will penetrate to the lowest parts of the station, some 40 feet below street level.
