Morning Brief: March 17

St. Patrick's Day is Here

Today's the day to celebrate the culture of the Emerald Isle. And there's plenty to do. Of course, the traditional parade up 5th Avenue starts at 11. There are the parties and pub crawls as usual, but the day's also an opportunity to learn about the history of the Irish in New York. You can even go on a walking tour of what remains of the famed 19th century Five Points Neighborhood, where so many Irish immigrants laid down roots in America. (It was also the setting for Gangs of New York)
