Rostam at WFUV

Rostam Batmanglij first became known to us as a founding member of New York City indie giants Vampire Weekend, but that is a vastly oversimplified way to refer to this multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and producer.

Leading up to his departure from Vampire Weekend in early 2016 and ever since, Rostam’s creative output has exploded at a dizzying pace. He quickly became an in-demand pop producer, working with Solange, Charli XCX, Frank Ocean, Carly Rae Jepson, and Haim, to name a few. He produced and collaborated on an album with Hamilton Leithauser of The Walkmen, last year’s I Had a Dream That You Were Mine.

Without skipping a beat, Rostam has immediately returned with a gorgeous album of his own. His solo debut is called Half Light, and on this episode of FUV Live, Rostam brings a small string ensemble to perform a few songs for us, and discuss the album.
