Summer in the City

There are plenty of ways to beat the heat in the baking Big Apple, including at one of the city's many outdoor pools.

Summer's officially here. The season arrived exactly at 1:16pm Tuesday.  So you can expect those who complained about the cold and snow-- to start complaining about the heat and humidity.

This episode of Cityscape includes an interview with the folks behind an idea for a floating pool that will filter river water into clean water, and an interview with a man who spent 20 summers at Orchard Beach working as a lifeguard. We'll also learn about the city's first public pools and visit Embee Sunshade. They've been making beach umbrellas since 1933.
