Bon Iver's Justin Vernon

Bon Iver seems to be giving Sigur Rós a run for its Nordic money; Justin Vernon and company's beautiful new video for "Holocene" was filmed entirely in Iceland.

The clip, which debuted on National Geographic, was directed by Nabil Elderkin who revealed that the video, which follows a young boy's perambulations across fields, volcanic plains and shorelines, was filmed on the country's east side, near the region of Vik.

Elderkin deems Iceland as the most "magical place" and was determined to shoot "Holocene" there.  "It looked like Mars to me, " he told National Geographic, "so I always wanted to shoot there. When Bon Iver gave me the reins on this video, I knew it had to be filmed there."

Bon Iver kicks off the next leg of a mostly sold-out North American tour on September 6 in Minneapolis before heading to Europe in October where the band has managed to also sell out most dates (though you can still snag tickets for Paris and Berlin).
