Walk4Hearing to Raise Awareness

According to the Hearing Loss Association of America, 48 million people across the county have hearing loss or impairment. That's why its Westchester/ Rockland chapter organized a walk in Westchester County to raise awareness.

David Goldwasser is the chair of this year's Walk4Hearing. He was inspired to get involved with the walk five years ago because his wife and two of his three children live with hearing loss. Goldwasser said accessibility technologies liked closed captioning have improved in the decades since he met his wife. But he said that they need to become more mainstream.

"...where my wife and I can go to any movie theater, go to a Broadway show, go to a concert, and enjoy the things that 80% of the population enjoy. That she doesn't have to feel intimated, and my children don't have to feel intimated, on using the phone to commmunicate," Goldwasser said.

The Walk4Hearing is Saturday May 16 at FDR State Park. Registration starts at 10 am and the walk starts at 11 am. It's one of 21 events hosted across the United States by the HLAA.
