TAS In Session: The Black Hollies, Live in Studio A

One listen to The Black Hollies and you’ll be left thinking they may be the one great band that didn’t hit it big during the first British Invasion. Turns out these guys are actually based out of Jersey City. Their latest album Softly Towards the Light, the band's third, is a throwback to vintage 60s psychedelic rock with soaring guitars, harmonies and plenty of organ.

The Black Hollies - Justin Morey, Herbert Wiley, Jon Gonnelli and Nicholas Ferrante - stopped by The Alternate Side studios for a session that was nothing but pure fun from start to finish. To say that the conversation was wide-ranging is a gross understatement. We talked about everything from the making of the record to 80s sitcoms to how the band spent CMJ playing two shows - and worked as roadies for three more. It was a great session capped off with an even greater performance as The Black Hollies played the first four songs from the new record in one complete suite: "Run With Me Run," "Gloomy Monday Morning," "When You're Not There" and "Everyything's Fine."

The Black Hollies are currently on tour with Bryan Scary and The Shredding Tears and play Brooklyn's Union Hall on November 24 and Maxwell's in Hoboken on November 25.
