When you’ve been a band for 20 years, you give your fans plenty of opportunity to make memories.

I’ve caught Cold War Kids on stages across the country, from Brooklyn, New York to Dover, Delaware and, perhaps most memorably, back in 2014 at a tiny music festival in Utopia, Texas — their music serving as the perfect soundtrack for that particular paradise. That’s all to say that over the last two decades, the band has been everywhere and continues to be everywhere, consistently cranking out hits —“Hang Me Up to Dry,” “First,” “Miracle Mile” and so many more—while giving audiences an opportunity to fall in love with them over and over again.

Last year, the group celebrated their 20th anniversary by dropping their tenth album, their first that was self-titled. A few days after the release, Nathan Willett, Matt Maust and Matthew Schwartz of the band joined FUV at Rockwood Music Hall to celebrate with a special FUV Live show, performing an exclusive stripped-down set for Marquee Members featuring new tracks and Cold War Kids classics —the soundtrack to fans’ past experiences, plus memories yet to be made.

Cold War Kids is out everywhere now and the band just followed it up with a new single, "Heaven in Your Hands," in January. For this FUV Live session, in addition to their intimate acoustic set, I spoke to the guys about their two decades of recording and their fave New York spots, from bars to bookstores.
