All I Intended to Be is the first solo album in five years from Emmylou Harris. It reunites her with Brian Ahearn, her ex-husband and the producer of many of her classic albums of the '70s and '80s, and it featured a number of original songs along with covers of Patty Griffin, Jude Johnstone, Billy Joe Shaver, and others.

I met up with Emmylou at the Premiere Radio Networks studios in New York City for a conversation about the album and her already lengthy career.. Among other things, we discussed her reputation as a "scavenger" of songs, her love of harmony singing, her spirituality, and her friendship with Kate and Anna McGarrigle. As always, she was full of grace, good humor, and modesty.
