Kevin Morby at Hotel Saint Cecilia/SXSW

This week at SXSW, FUV caught up with several young artists and bands, all on the verge of bigger things, at Austin's Hotel Saint Cecilia. Kevin Morby, ex of Woods and the Babies, releases his second solo album, Singing Saw, on April 15.

Morby, who recorded with a bevy of collaborators that included Sam Cohen, Marco Benevento and Quilt's John Andrews (who does indeed play a saw), looked to the legacy of The Band for the arrangements of his latest orchestral pop opus. In contrast, his Hotel Saint Cecilia performance is free of all instruments, except acoustic guitar and vocals, and it focuses on the core of the song which opens Singing Saw, "Cut Me Down."
