New Jersey Bill Calls for Gas Station Reform

A bill in New Jersey would require gas stations to clearly post both their cash and credit card prices.

The cash price is often advertised out front while the higher credit price is posted on the pump. Customers using plastic pay a few more cents per gallon to cover fees from credit companies.

State Senator Shirley Turner said most drivers are not aware of the price difference: "Especially now with these high costs, these sky rocketing prices of gasoline, the consumer needs to have all the protection they can get from being gouged."

Under the bill, gas stations would have four months to clearly post both prices or face stiff penalties. The legislation has already cleared Senate and Assembly committees.
