Wolf Alice

At Wolf Alice's gig at Mercury Lounge in late January, the venue was jam-packed for this canny north London quartet with a knack for songs that teeter between stormy lashings and tender idylls. On the basis of two very impressive EPs released over the last two years, Blush (2013) and Creature Songs (2014), Wolf Alice has made ambitious strides, graduating from tiny Camden Town club gigs to behemoth festivals like Glastonbury. They were tapped for the BBC's Sound of 2015 longlist and on the very morning of the Mercury Lounge show, the group signed a major label deal in the States. Wolf Alice's debut album, My Love Is Cool, will be released on June 23 via Dirty Hit/RCA.

Wolf Alice—singer/guitarist Ellie Rowsell, guitarist Joff Oddie, bassist Theo Ellis and drummer Joel Amey—made their way to the Bronx for their first New York radio gig for WFUV and The Alternate Side. In addition to playing their epic new single "Giant Peach" and the explosive "Moaning Lisa Smile" from Creature Songs, they also chatted about their surprising folk-rock beginnings, the deliberately slow evolution of their debut album and the challenges of living in expensive London as a young band.
