Basia Bulat and band at WFUV

An album titled Good Advice might lead one to believe that some important insights or answers might be found there. But for Montreal-based artist Basia Bulat, the name for her fourth album was about the irony of seeking knowledge and repeatedly discovering, in the end, that the only person who can answer those big questions is yourself.

Bulat certainly isn’t the first artist to look within, yet her new batch of songs also calls for looking outward for a collaborative, sonic exploration. This took her on a journey from Toronto to Louisville, Kentucky to work with kindred spirit, Jim James of My Morning Jacket.

On her return visit to Studio A, Basia Bulat and her band play a couple of new tunes, we talk favorite instruments, long road trips, the fun she had making her fourth album, and the single most important piece of good advice she’s gotten and given.
