Janie Barnett is a singer, songwriter, teacher, and networker. Born and raised in northern Virginia, she went to school in New England, before moving to NewYork City. She quickly got work as a session singer, in part because she could sound like Rickie Lee Jones and Bonnie Raitt. She's taught voice at Berklee College of Music in Boston and been a prime mover for the New York Singers Collective.

As a songwriter, she has her own voice, with mature insights in her new album, You See This River. She recorded the album with some of New York's top musicians who, as the Blue Room, accompanied her into Studio A for this session and will join her at Rockwood Music Hall on Tuesday, February 13,  for my "On Your Radar" series.
