It's always so interesting to welcome an artist to the WFUV studios in New York City from the other side of the world. Júníus Meyvant, born Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson, is from the Westman Islands off the south coast of Iceland — a world away even from Reykjavík — and his music is as vast and gorgeous as I imagine the land he's from.

Across the Borders is his second album, which rich in melody, poetic lyrics, and inventive orchestrations. For our Studio A session, Meyvant brought the magic solo and acoustic, but the grandness of the songs is still evident. We spoke about his home in a lava field and his interesting instrumentation on the album, bringing vintage drum machines and strings together.
