With ties to the Catskills as well as New York, Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds have built a reputation as a stomping, brass-soaked, eight-piece live band rooted in traditional rhythm and blues.

The band's new album, Gold, is released under the Sister Sparrow name, and it finds the octet collaborating with producer Carter Matschullat. The result shows a crafty pop sense from the group, delving into new sonic and lyrical territory.

In this FUV Live session, hear a pair of songs from Gold performed by the whole band in Studio A, and my conversation with singer Arleigh Kincheloe, the leader of Sister Sparrow, and Jackson Kincheloe, her harmonica and lap steel-playing brother.
