Public Service Broadcasting: TAS In Session
The London-based Public Service Broadcasting is a bespectacled electronic duo who call themselves J. Willgoose Esq. and Wrigglesworth. Utilizing clips borrowed from archival propaganda movies, newsreels and educational films found in the British Film Institute and elsewhere, Public Service Broadcasting makes humorous, uplifting and resonant music that is mostly instrumental with spoken samples serving as vocals. Topics range from World War II ("Spitfire") to mountain expeditions ("Everest") to the advent of color television ("ROYGBIV").
Wrigglesworth plays drums while J. Willgoose Esq. handles banjo, guitar, MIDI controllers and more. Their music is incredibly innovative, highly entertaining and translates to live performance in surprising ways, leaning on a multimedia presentation. In fact, the need to educate and entertain is a mission statement from the pair who titled their full-length debut Inform-Educate-Entertain.
On the heels of their first headlining North American tour, Public Service Broadcasting recently stopped by Studio A to give us a taste of their unique musical mission.
Watch Public Service Broadcasting performing live in Studio A below, listen to the duo's session now in the FUV Vault, or listen to it on TAS on 91.5 WNYE today, April 11, at 11a.m. EDT, also streaming online.
