In the fall of 2016, Freebo, a veteran singer-songwriter and sideman (best known as Bonnie Raitt's bass player for 10 years), heard Alice Howe, a newcomer from Boston, perform at the Northeastern Regional Folk Alliance. Freebo was instantly impressed.

After connecting again in February 2017 at the Folk Alliance conference in Kansas City, Freebo invited Howe to try recording a few songs with him in California. The collaboration was so fruitful that they're working on a full album to be released in 2018. They gave us a preview of that — and their performance together on Tuesday night at Rockwood Music Hall for On Your Radar — in this session.

According to Freebo, Howe, like Raitt, is comfortable in many different musical genres and can get to the heart of a song without oversinging. Howe, in turn, is able to lend gorgeous harmonies to a couple of Freebo's beautiful songs.
