Lt. Governor Hochul Lays Out Administration Priorities

New York Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul came to Fordham University in the Bronx Wednesday to discuss Governor Cuomo's budget priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.

One theme from Lt. Governor Hochul's presentation stood out: public investment.

"This is dreaming big," said the Lt. Governor. "You've got to remember--this is New York state."

Some of the Cuomo administration's proposals are already well-known, such as the expansion of Penn Station and the rebuilding of LaGuardia Airport. However, there is much more on the administration's agenda. It includes billions in state funding for affordable housing, a record $24.2 billion for education, and attempting to make electricity production in New York coal-free by 2020.

Lt. Governor Hochul stressed that the investment shouldn't mean higher taxes.

"We have a lot of states in the nation where they have a zer tax rate," said the Lt. Governor. "Florida, Texas, others--we are in direct competition with those states."

Lt. Governor Hochul said that she gave the speech at Fordham in an attempt to help get young people involved with their government, by speaking directly with them.
