Morning Brief: January 20

NYC Wifi Jesus

Four new public, gigabit Wi-Fi hotspots became available to the New York City public yesterday, and preliminary reviews are saying the modules provide unprecedentedly fast Internet speeds. A writer for Gizmodo tested out the units and reports that they also feature USB outlets for charging, city maps, 911 access, and video calls to anywhere in the country. The stations are built on remodeled city pay phones, and currently stand as 9.5-foot-tall rectangles in some of the city’s busiest areas.
