Netherlands-born, London-based Dutch Mustard, who is the songwriter SJ Riedel and her band, just released a second EP, the gauzy, gritty, shoegazing Beauty. Riedel, whose vocals are at once husky and honeyed — with a touch of Liz Fraser pixie dust — celebrates the EP's release with the band at London's The Waiting Room on December 8.
The Jesus and Mary Chain are back, with their first album in about seven years, Glasgow Eyes, due out on the 8th of March and neatly coinciding with the brothers Reid's 40th anniversary as a band. Yard Act have released a moody growl of a new single that shuffles with Odelay-era insouciance, and Leeds' English Teacher show off their softer side with a pensive and gorgeous new song.
London-based Miso Extra covers a Swedish band that she loves; Björk and Rosalía convene for an inspired, ethereal collaboration on an older song; and Sydney's Milan Ring has a sultry song for steamy days, since it's summer in Australia.
Also in the mix: Cleo Sol, Heartworms, Gruff Rhys, Malka, and HotWax, who made their ferocious and fabulous NYC debut on Thursday at Mercury Lounge after recording an FUV Live session earlier in the day.
