Since the release of their debut single "Services" on the Hand in Hive label in early 2022, Nottingham-bread Divorce has released a series of songs that reflect their love of Americana — with a twist —  and wiry storytelling that slips from murderous cheek ("Checking Out") to sweet-sounding trials of self-doubt ("Birds"). Their debut EP, Get Mean, came out in December 2022 and this past Friday, the band released their second EP, Heady Metal, their first for new label Gravity/EMI.

Divorce — which is vocalist/bassist Tiger Cohen-Towell, vocalist/guitarist Felix Mackenzie-Barrow, guitarist Adam Peter Smith and drummer Kasper Sandstrøm — also sold out their November/December headlining tour of the UK, which kicks off this Tuesday, November 21, in Bristol.

Back in July, I met up with Felix in the courtyard of the Strongroom Bar in Shoreditch for a chat. At the time, Heady Metal hadn't been announced, but we did cover a lot of ground, from the genesis of the band, to the creative bond between Tiger and Felix, and their influences, which include The Felice Brothers and Perfume Genius. London threw every bit of distracting sound in our direction, from construction power drills/saws to hovering helicopters and gusts of wind, but we persevered and on tonight's "UKNY" at 11 p.m., that conversation with Felix plus three songs from Heady Metal.

Also in the mix in the second half of the show, new releases from Lime Garden, The Smile, Sampha, The Big Moon, and Bombay Bicycle Club.

That's "UKNY," Sundays from 11 p.m.-midnight, on 90.7FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.

1. Divorce, “Birds,” Heady Metal EP
