Alessia Cara

The first artist to really move Alessia Cara was Amy Winehouse.  After hearing her, this young Toronto musician started thinking about music in a different way. She got her hands on a guitar and taught herself to play. Cara began uploading cover songs to YouTube and soon caught the attention of Def Jam Records. The label signed her and provided her with the tools to begin writing her own material.

Cara describes her debut single, “Here,” as an "anti-party anthem." After the track was released earlier this year, it went viral and garnered over 500,000 streams within the first week.

Alessia Cara she stopped by WFUV to talk about and play us some of her new songs.  We’ll hear that performance and conversation during this episode of FUV Live.
