De Blasio Announces a Blizzard Travel Advisory

W 95th Street

It's time for New Yorkers to wake up and face the winter. After a warm December, a blizzard is on its way to the city for the first time this season. Mayor de Blasio announced a travel advisory for Saturday and Sunday. He says New Yorkers should not take unnecessary risks.

"Anyone who has the illusion that they're going to be taking big trips on Saturday and Sunday - get that out of your mind. It's not happening. Travel on the roads is going to get harder and harder. I think people need to take this very seriously and recognize that this is the real thing."

However, kids shouldn't get their hopes up about a Monday snow day. "This is my first winter where I'm not a public school parent, so I don't have Dante encouraging a snow day," the mayor joked. "Our hope is that school will be normal on Monday."

Until then, the mayor suggests you stay indoors and keep warm.
