The duo Luluc take their time, both when releasing albums and in letting each song unfold. Like the title of their third album, Sculptor, their craft can’t be rushed.
Originally from Melbourne, Australia, and now based in Brooklyn, Zoe Randall and Steve Hassett released their debut a decade ago. Six years later, their Aaron Dessner-produced follow up, Passerby, arrived. Thankfully, the wait was shorter for the new album, which features contributions from Dessner, as well as J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and other special guests.
On their return visit to Studio A, I chatted with Randall and Hassett about the theme of the new album, their move to New York, and their new studio. I was also treated to a live performance of couple of new songs.
