NYC Sustainability Countdown
A conservation group is calling on Mayor Bloomberg to dedicate his last five months to the environment.
The New York League of Conservation Voters teamed up with transportation, health, and energy experts to develop a to-do list for the administration's remaining days in office. Dan Hendrick is the Vice President of External Affairs, and he says their goals are well within reach.
"We wanted to sort of identify things that can make a significant difference but can really get done."
Dubbed the Sustainability Countdown, the 14-point environmental agenda includes air quality surveys, construction code amendments, and new Select Bus Service routes, among other things. Hendricks says despite the competition for the administration's attention, he's hopeful about the plan because of the Mayor's record on environmental policies.
"Clearly, sustainability and environmental issues are one area that the mayor, I think, has really put us on the map in a really big way."
On the environmental to-do list are energy conservation initiatives and pollution awareness projects to be completed by the end of the year.
