Phoebe Hunt's parents, who were disciples of Guru Swami Satchidananda in the '70s, decided to name their daughter "Shanti," which means "peace" in Hindi. In deference to her grandmother, they also named her "Phoebe," which has been the name that stuck. However, after a 2016 trip to India which included a meditation retreat and studies with the master violinist and vocalist Kala Ramnath, Phoebe was inspired to record her latest album, Shanti's Shadow.

Phoebe recorded the album in Brooklyn with a stellar group of musicians, collectively known as Phoebe Hunt and the Gatherers. She brought them to WFUV to perform some of the songs from the album in this studio session for "Sunday Supper."
