A Season Dragging to a Close - Fordham Loses Seventh Straight

It's simple, everything has gone wrong for the Fordham University Football team in 2011. Saturday was no different. The Rams turned the ball over four times – one that directly lead to a touchdown – and the special teams allowed a 73-yard kickoff return on the way to dropping their seventh straight game, 30-13 at Georgetown.

On our eighth edition of the Monday Night Quarterback, we spoke with Coach Masella about the travails that his team has faced this season. We also hit on some of the things that the team can build upon in order to prepare for the final two games of the season. Coach spoke about Fordham’s next opponent, Bucknell, and some of the things that Fordham will need to accomplish in order to capture their second victory of the season.

In our "Open the Playbook" portion of the program, we sat down with outside linebacker’s coach Nate Slutzky. Coach Slutzky is a 2007 graduate of the University of Colorado, and he talked about how he began his coaching career with the Bison. Coach Slutzky mentioned some of the Fordham’s younger linebackers who will likely become impact players in the future and he also provided insight into their weekly preparation.

We had two seniors on the show Monday night, wide receiver Brad Pierre and linebacker Ben Daley. Pierre spoke about his progression in the Fordham program over his four seasons in the Bronx. Coach Masella has spoken at length about his leadership qualities and, on Monday, we got Pierre to comment on his senior leadership this season. Ben Daley is a senior from Alva, Florida. The trademark of Ben’s career has been his versatility. He played defensive end in high school, later became a defensive back at Fordham, and has recently moved to linebacker. We asked Ben about the adjustments he has faced with these position shifts and which one fits him best.

Fordham will next be in action on Saturday afternoon when they host the Bucknell Bison at 1:00 in the second to last game of the season. Hear the game beginning with the One on One pre-game report at 12:50 on both 90.7 FM and wfuv.org.
