Fordham Falls to Pittsburgh in First Round of Preseason NIT
The Fordham Rams are back in the Preseason NIT for the first time since 2006, and the 4th time since 1990, when they received their first invite. They hadn't won a game in six tries coming into the tournament, and they failed to change their luck Monday night in Pittsburgh, losing 86-51 to the Panthers.
Jeff Short and Bryan Smith led the way for Fordham with 11 points; Short went 4-for-7 from the field in just 12 minutes, while Smith was 3-of-6 from downtown in his second start of the season. Chris Gaston, meahwile, attempted just 4 field goals and finished with 4 points and 6 boards.
Fordham was outscored by 19 in the first half, but performed a bit better in the second scoring 33 points to Pitt's 49.
On the Panthers side, JJ Moore came off the bench and scored 20 points in 19 minutes to lead their scoring, while Forward Dante Taylor led all rebounders with 9.
The Rams are back in action tomorrow night in Pittsburgh as they play the winner of Lehigh-Robert Morris in their first consolation matchup. They're guaranteed 4 games in the tournament.
