Conference play continues as the Rams split two on the road before returning home for a "Battle of the Rams"
A split of a two game conference road trip would be considered a major success a year ago. After all, the Rams only won one of their seven conference road games in 2012. In 2013, however, the achievement is disappointing for a new look team with a new found confidence.
Fordham began their week in Cincinnati, looking to take down the Musketeers for the first time in the past 17 meetings. Xavier put up quite a fight, but it would be the Rams coming out on top at the Cintas Center, 48-41. Erin Rooney had a strong night offensively, while Abigail Corning added 11 rebounds. Samantha Clark continued her good play with 9 points on 4/6 shooting, with 3 blocks and 8 boards. Despite difficult traveling conditions, the Rams were 4-0 in the conference for the first time, and had already managed two conference wins on the road, something they hadn’t done since the 2005-06 season.
The Rams took a six game winning streak into Pittsburgh for a match up with Duquesne, who were also atop the Atlantic 10 with a perfect league slate. Despite Sam Clark’s 19 points and a season high 17 from Arielle Collins, Duquesne dominated from wire to wire in a 68-50 loss.
This week, senior guard Arielle Collins and freshman post Samantha Clark join me and DJ Sixsmith to talk about the week that was, while Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley breaks down the road split and looks forward to the Rams matchup with the VCU Rams.
Fordham women’s basketball next plays on Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm when the Battle of the Rams comes to the Rose Hill Gym. Fordham is 14-6, while conference newcomer Virginia Commonwealth sits at just 1-4 in the Atlantic Ten. The game can be heard right here on WFUVSports.org with the One on One Pregame Report at 1:55pm.
