Honor Mentor of the Year

On Tuesday, July 26th, the Yankees celebrated the Tuesday’s Children mentoring program. Bronx Bombers Mariano Rivera, Curtis Granderson, Phil Hughes, Corey Wade, Steve Garrison and former manager Joe Torre surprised members of Tuesday’s Children at Beekman Beach club at the South Street Seaport.
Tuesday’s Children was founded after the September 11th terrorist attacks to aid those in need of healing and recovery. The organization established a mentoring program that has helped to heal the wounds of those who have been affected by tragedy, and has helped more than 175 children to date. Based in the New York tri-state region, Tuesday’s Children fosters relationships between children and adult role models who have both lost family members as a result of tragic circumstances. The mentors and mentees meet informally at least twice a month, participating in a wide range of activities such as playing video games, hanging out in the park, or going to the movies.
